And it only took a year.
While the logo isn't perfect and still has the mottling and pits of age, I am happy with how it turned out. I had to track down the funny looking nuts that held the logo on and found them in the airparts.com catalog. They called them Tinnerman Speed Nuts. The local hardware store had never heard that name before, but produced the same nut by my description.
After adding sufficient gloobage, I am fairly confident that it won't leak.
All of the panels that need to be replaced (with the exception of a roof patch) are complete. We removed the panel that housed the range vent:
and replaced it with a solid panel.
The hardest part was getting the old panel out. Putting the new one in was a piece of cake.

Not too shabby, if I may say so. And while I am bragging, I was finally able to finish the first cut of polishing on the front end cap, including the elusive bit at the top.
